Steven Moreira Named MLS Defender of the Year
A Columbus crew member is recognized for an exceptional 2024 season.
Steven Moreira, the center-back for the Columbus Crew, is the third player in the team’s history to win the 2024 MLS Defender of the Year award. The Crew’s excellent season, which includes making it to the Concacaf Champions Cup final, earning the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, and winning the 2024 Leagues Cup, was greatly aided by the 30-year-old Frenchman.
The Crew’s accomplishments this season were greatly aided by Moreira’s defensive skill and leadership. The team’s outstanding defensive record was largely due to his reliable performances and ability to lead the backline.

Jordi Alba of Inter Miami came in second and Jackson Ragen of the Seattle Sounders came in third in the vote for the Defender of the Year award. The honor is a testament to Moreira’s outstanding efforts and the respect he enjoys in Major League Soccer.
