Trabzonspor is Experiencing a Nightmare This Season

Trabzonspor has had a troubled start to the season in both the Trendyol Super Lig and European matches. The team has won only 3 out of 13 matches across the Super Lig and European competitions, resulting in a win rate of just 23%. The Black Sea team has drawn 8 matches and lost 2.

Having exited Europe early, Trabzonspor currently sits in 10th place in the league after 8 weeks, with 9 points from 7 matches—6 draws and 1 victory.

A Poor Start in the League

Trabzonspor began the league with a 0-0 draw away against Net Global Sivasspor. After missing the second week due to a bye, their third match against Bellona Kayserispor was postponed due to a European cup match. In the fourth week, they drew 0-0 away against Ikas Eyüpspor. In the fifth week, they drew 1-1 at home against Besiktas and 2-2 in the postponed match against Bellona Kayserispor.

In the sixth week, they returned from Gaziantep FK with a scoreless draw but finally achieved their first victory in the seventh week at home against TUMOSAN Konyaspor, winning 3-2. They then drew 1-1 against Atakas Hatayspor in their latest match.

Early Exit from Europe

After finishing last season in 3rd place, Trabzonspor began their European journey in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. They defeated Slovakia’s Ruzomberok 2-0 away and 1-0 at home. However, they were eliminated in the third qualifying round by Austria’s Rapid Wien, losing 1-0 at home and 2-0 away.

Moving on to the UEFA Conference League, they faced Switzerland’s St. Gallen in the playoff round, drawing 0-0 away and 1-1 at home. Trabzonspor was eliminated after losing in the penalty shootout, marking an early exit from Europe.

Three Coaches in Charge

Trabzonspor has had three different coaches this season. Under head coach Abdullah Avcı, the team managed 2 victories, 3 draws, and 2 losses in their European matches and the first league match against Net Global Sivasspor.

In the second week, they played against Ikas Eyüpspor under interim general director Ihsan Derelioglu, resulting in a draw. Finally, under new head coach Senol Gunes, the team has recorded 4 draws and 1 victory.
