Frenkie de Jong Takes Precautionary Steps to Protect Ankle After Lengthy Injury Absence
After a protracted recuperation that kept him out of action for more than five months, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has spoken out about the steps he is taking to avoid more ankle problems. His club performances and services to the Netherlands national team were both negatively impacted by the injury, which was first incurred during a fierce El Clasico match in April.
Speaking to Voetbal International, De Jong admitted that the ordeal has completely changed how he approaches his physical preparation.
“I spend a lot of time on my ankle now. Before, I didn’t even think about it before matches. But now, I get treated before every training session and game. I use ice, make extra preparations, and follow a strict routine.”
The Dutch international acknowledged that these adjustments are likely to remain part of his routine for the foreseeable future. “I think this will continue to be the case for a while. I’ll have to pay close attention to my ankle for a longer period of time.” he added.
