Funny moments at Galatasaray’s press conference
Before the Europa League match between Galatasaray and Elfsborg on Wednesday, October 23 (tomorrow), goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc shared his thoughts. The experienced shot-stopper explained why he ran to Victor Osimhen after his bicycle kick goal.
Speaking ahead of the UEFA Europa League Week 3 match, where Galatasaray will host Sweden’s Elfsborg, goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc talked about what he discussed with Victor Osimhen on the bench and why he ran to him after his incredible bicycle kick.
After Fernando Muslera’s 3-match suspension in Europe, Guvenc took over the goal and said the following:
“We have a total of 8 matches, and we want to continue in the Europa League by reaching the maximum points. That’s our goal. My mission is not just to play and earn money; I have different missions as well. I aim to help the younger players and raise the friendship within the team to the highest level. I’m not someone who stays on the bench and rests. I work with 100% effort.”
“I struggle because I’m not playing”
“I struggle sometimes because I’m not playing, especially since I used to play in past years. I even have arguments with my wife about not playing. I keep myself ready. I want to contribute to the team. But everyone in Turkey, Europe, and the entire Galatasaray community knows the value of the player ahead of me. We never see Muslera’s performance drop, and I can say it’s because of me. He feels me on his back, and that makes me proud.”
“Osimhen’s goal celebration”
“I was sitting next to Osimhen on the bench. He asked me a lot of questions while we were on the bench. He especially asked about the Ataturk picture. He asked about the National Anthem. He asked what the fans were chanting. He’s a very curious person. He entered the match, scored a beautiful goal. Then, as he was running towards us, I thought he was going to hug our coach (Okan Buruk: I thought the same), but I saw that he gave a ‘high five’ to the coach and hugged me. It was something that happened spontaneously.”
