Gerrard refused to live in Saudi Arabia
The English football legend team, who works in Al-Ettifaq, one of the Saudi Arabian teams, is facing a difficult situation after the results.
Steven Gerrard, one of England’s football legends, is having a hard time in his coaching career in Saudi Arabia. Gerrard, who entered his third season at the head of the Saudi Pro League team Al-Ettifaq, states that he is completely committed to his duty despite the performance criticisms. Gerrard, who leads a luxurious life in the Middle East with an annual earnings of 15.2 million pounds, lives a comfortable life with his family in his glamorous mansion in Bahrain.
Steven Gerrard, who became the head of Al-Ettifaq in the summer of 2023, created great excitement among the fans when he started a new career in the Saudi Pro League. Gerrard, who finished sixth in the league in its first season, aimed to focus more on the club to continue his success. However, things are not going well this season. Al-Ettifaq, who has not been able to win in the league since September, was recently eliminated by losing 3-1 to Al-Jabalain, a team from the lower league, in the King’s Cup. After this defeat, criticism of Gerrard intensified in Saudi football media.
He does not live in Saudi Arabia
Holding a press conference on Friday, Gerrard objected to allegations that he adjusted his trainings according to Liverpool matches and promised to continue to work for success in the Saudi Professional League club.
“The most important thing for me is this job and trying to make this club the best possible on and off the field,” Gerrard said. I exist with everything and I will continue to exist,” he said.
Gerrard’s family has fully adapted to his new life in the Middle East. Leaving their home in the UK behind, Gerrard and his family live in a six-room villa that they rented for a monthly rent of £10,000 in Bahrain’s Hamala, an hour away, instead of living in Saudi Arabia. The family refused a house in Dammam, the headquarters of Al-Ettifaq, close to Gerrard’s work, and preferred to settle in Bahrain. Bahrain has more comfortable laws than Saudi Arabia, where alcohol is banned.
Equipped with a private pool, tennis court and game room, this mansion is located adjacent to Bahrain’s elite rich and even royal members. As part of his contract, Gerrard and his family were also granted free membership to the two of the country’s most exclusive health clubs located in the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel and the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The couple, who got married in 2007, have 3 girls and a boy, including 20-year-old Lilly Ella, 17-year-old Lexie, 12-year-old Lourdes, and 7-year-old Lio.
