Guardiola Furious: “Enough, I Am Not a Lawyer”
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has broken his silence regarding the allegations against his team for violating financial rules. The hearing on the 115 charges against Manchester City for allegedly breaching Premier League financial regulations will take place on Monday, September 16, more than 18 months after the charges were first made public. Guardiola wants the case resolved as soon as possible but stated that he and his team are not involved in the process.
What Did Pep Guardiola Say?
Pep Guardiola said, “I am not a lawyer. There are a lot of lawyers in this country, but I am just waiting. We will see. Erling is not a lawyer either, so we haven’t discussed this with him,” during a press conference, adding, “Whatever happens will be decided by an independent panel, and we will accept the punishment. I don’t want to talk about it, enough is enough.”
Guardiola has faced repeated questions about the league case against Manchester City and has expressed frustration at times when the investigation overshadows his team’s success on the field. He wants the case to be closed once and for all. The City coach added, “I am happy it starts on Monday and that there will be no more rumors. I know what people are looking for because I have been reading it for years, but I keep saying that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”
Did You Know?
Pep Guardiola also expressed his frustration over the tight schedule, with Manchester City set to play Arsenal in the Premier League on September 22 and Watford in the Carabao Cup on September 24, giving them just two days of rest. He stated: “This will happen many times for teams playing in all competitions. They offered an alternative to play away in London on Thursday for more days, but then we had a game against Newcastle on Saturday, and of course, we prioritized more rest for Newcastle. So, we will play on Tuesday because we couldn’t play on Wednesday as United are playing in the Europa League, and the police won’t allow it. When someone creates a new competition, it will be even worse.”
City plans to maintain their unbeaten run in the Premier League by hosting Brentford on Saturday. Nathan Ake is currently unavailable after an injury during his duties with the Netherlands National Team, but Rodri and Phil Foden have returned to training and could be in the starting eleven.
