Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah’s Early-Season Form Highlights Importance of Rest, Says Players’ Union Chief

The brilliant early-season form of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah serves as a reminder of the importance of proper rest periods for footballers, according to Players’ Union chief Maheta Molango.

Haaland has netted seven goals in Manchester City’s first three Premier League matches of the 2024-25 campaign, while Liverpool’s Salah has contributed three goals and three assists.

Neither player participated in major post-season tournaments, and they were singled out as examples by Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) chief executive Molango, following the release of a new Player Workload Monitoring (PWM) report by global union Fifpro, which surveyed 1,500 footballers.

“There is a big difference between players who have holidays and those who don’t. Take Haaland, for instance. He is back to being the machine he was when he first arrived in England. And similarly, Mo Salah is now the best version of himself.” Molango said.
