Hamilton: “I Experienced What Norris Went Through with Verstappen in 2021”

Lewis Hamilton emphasized the need for more fairness and consistency in penalties within Formula 1, referencing the inconsistencies in rule enforcement.

The seven-time world champion argued that the issues surrounding penalties and rule applications need to be addressed, drawing parallels to his own experiences with Max Verstappen in 2021. Evaluating the battle between Verstappen and Lando Norris, Hamilton stated, “I’ve seen this in many situations with Max. You can’t just dive in and get ahead, then go wide and maintain your position.”

He recalled, “I remember what happened in Brazil in 2021. When braking while being in front, the other car lifts off the brake, can’t make the turn, and pushes you off. But then they say we both went off, even though I had no other option.”

Hamilton stressed, “There definitely needs to be some regulation on this. This area has always remained gray, and that’s why Max has taken advantage of it for years. There need to be adjustments in the rules. Additionally, there are inconsistencies between weekends.”

He added, “As a sport, we need to elevate our standards across the board. Looking at other global sports, for example, all competitions have referees present. I don’t think that would be a bad thing for our sport either.”

Regarding the Mexican Grand Prix, Hamilton mentioned, “I don’t know if I’ll face the same issues here as I did in the last race. The car was very unstable, but this track is smoother, so I hope we won’t experience the same problems. If we don’t, we might be a bit closer to the front.”
