Hamilton: “I Missed Pole Due to the Yellow Flag”

Lewis Hamilton stated that he lost the chance to start the sprint from pole position because of Colapinto’s spin.

Lewis Hamilton stated that he unfortunately missed pole position during the sprint qualifying for the Austin GP.

Hamilton explained that he was unable to complete his lap under yellow flags due to Franco Colapinto’s issue in Turn 12, which caused him to miss the opportunity to overtake George Russell.

The British driver emphasized his satisfaction with Mercedes’ new updates, which have made the car more competitive. He described the situation as follows: “I was unlucky with the yellow flag. I was ahead by 0.4 seconds on my lap, but it is what it is.”

“Still, the good thing is that the team has made a significant step forward in performance. The updates worked, and I’m really grateful for everyone’s efforts at the factory during this process.”

“It has been a tough process; getting the updates and ensuring they work is not easy. But nothing is over yet; we will have another chance.”

Despite both Mercedes drivers spinning during free practice, Hamilton noted that the car improved for qualifying: “The changes we made to the car were a bit of a gamble.”

“Because you never know if those changes will work.”

“However, the performance difference was like night and day as soon as I got in the car. The team in the garage and the engineers did a fantastic job.”
