Inter Miami Confident Lionel Messi Will Sign Contract Extension

Inter Miami are optimistic about securing a new deal with Lionel Messi, whose current contract expires in December 2025.

The 38-year-old Argentine, widely regarded as the greatest player of all time, remains a pivotal figure not only for the club but also for Major League Soccer (MLS). Negotiations are already underway, and sources from both the club and league believe Messi is likely to commit to an extension.

According to insiders close to the player, Messi is open to staying in the United States despite renewed interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Key to MLS Growth Ahead of 2026 World Cup

One major reason Inter Miami and MLS are keen to keep Messi is the approaching 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Messi’s presence in the league significantly boosts global visibility and commercial growth for MLS during a critical period.

While unconfirmed, there is speculation that Messi may retire from international football after leading Argentina in their World Cup title defence.

Messi’s Impact at Inter Miami

Messi has made a historic impact since joining Inter Miami, becoming the club’s all-time top scorer with 50 goals, including a memorable free-kick in the Club World Cup against Porto.

However, Miami were recently knocked out of the tournament after a 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in front of 65,574 fans in Atlanta — a testament to the immense interest Messi generates, even in losses.
