Isco Jokes About Crowdfunding to Keep Antony at Betis

Antony has won 16 caps for Brazil

Antony’s Impact at Real Betis Has Fans Dreaming of a Longer Stay

Real Betis midfielder Isco believes the club should crowdfund to extend Antony’s loan spell beyond the end of the season. The Manchester United winger has made an instant impact since arriving in January, quickly becoming a key figure in Betis’ push for a Champions League spot.

With four goals and four assists in 12 games, Antony has played a crucial role in Betis’ impressive form. His influence has not gone unnoticed, with Isco leading the calls for a way to keep him at the club.

Isco: “We Have to Crowdfund to Keep Antony Here”

Speaking to DAZN, Isco praised his teammate’s contributions, both on and off the pitch:

“We have to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year,” Isco joked. “We’ve noticed a change since he arrived; he brings us a lot. I’m happy to have Antony here. He’s surprised us all with his humility and desire to help.”

While Isco’s suggestion was made in jest, it reflects the genuine desire within the club to extend Antony’s stay.

Antony’s Transformation at Betis

Before his move to Spain, Antony’s time at Manchester United was filled with frustration and inconsistency. After arriving at Old Trafford from Ajax for £81 million in 2022, expectations were high. However, he failed to deliver, scoring just one Premier League goal since April 2023.

At Betis, things have been completely different. The Brazilian winger has rediscovered his confidence and attacking flair, helping Manuel Pellegrini’s side to six consecutive La Liga wins.

His arrival coincided with a remarkable turnaround for Betis, who have lost only two of their 12 matches since he joined.

Betis Covering Most of Antony’s Salary

While Manchester United were keen to offload Antony temporarily, Betis are covering a significant portion of his wages. Reports suggest the Spanish club is paying at least 84% of his £100,000-per-week salary—a considerable amount for a club with a limited budget.

This financial strain could make it difficult for Betis to negotiate an extended stay, unless a creative solution—like Isco’s crowdfunding idea—becomes reality.

Can Betis Afford to Keep Antony?

Despite the clear desire to retain the Brazilian, the club faces serious financial hurdles. Betis’ record signing remains Denilson, who arrived for £22 million in 1998—a fee that pales in comparison to Antony’s £81 million transfer to United.

If Betis qualify for the Champions League, their financial situation could improve, giving them a better chance of negotiating a deal. However, any permanent transfer would require a drastic pay cut from Antony or Manchester United lowering their demands.

What’s Next for Antony and Betis?

With the season nearing its conclusion, Betis will need to make a decision soon. The club has already exceeded expectations this season, but securing a Champions League spot could be the key to keeping Antony.

For now, fans—and even players like Isco—can only hope that Betis find a way to extend his stay. If Antony continues to shine in La Liga, the club may have no choice but to explore all possible options, including a crowdfunding campaign—as Isco half-jokingly suggested.

One thing is certain: Antony has rediscovered his best form in Spain, and Betis will do everything they can to keep him.
