JJ Redick’s coaching: What’s new for the Lakers?
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick is making his NBA debut under big pressure, given the team’s high profile. Despite this, he’s off to a promising start. The Lakers currently hold a 7-4 record through their first 11 games of the season.
The only significant roster changes from last year are the additions of rookies Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, with the latter splitting his time between the NBA and the G League.
However, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Matt Williams, Redick’s impact on the team goes deeper than it might appear.
Redick has introduced several key principles, as highlighted by ESPN:
- Respecting one another’s time;
- Playing for a shared, common goal;
- Expecting elite execution every night, regardless of who’s on the court;
- Emphasizing efficiency, from shot selection by players to time management by coaches;
- Focusing on details, such as the angle of screens on offense or the timing of blitzing a pick-and-roll on defense.
