Jose Mourinho’s Actions in Antalyaspor Match Are Trending

Fenerbahce faced Antalyaspor in the 7th week of the Trendyol Super Lig. The match ended with the yellow-blues winning 2-0, but it was coach Jose Mourinho’s actions that drew attention. Referee commentators examined the Portuguese coach’s controversial gesture.

In the match held at Corendon Airlines Park, Fenerbahce secured victory with goals from Dusan Tadic in the 63rd minute and an own goal by Thalisson in the 81st minute. Besides the win, Mourinho’s move in the 77th minute made headlines. After Fenerbahce’s disallowed goal due to offside, the Portuguese coach placed his laptop in front of the broadcaster’s camera, showing an unprecedented reaction.

Referee commentators analyzed this action, providing the following evaluations:

“I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS”
Deniz Coban: “I never thought I would experience such a thing while reading this article. What is the inappropriate use of unapproved electronic equipment? Showing a position that is not offside with a phone as the referee goes inside. VAR did not correctly identify the offside; actually, the position was a goal, and I placed the laptop here for VAR to see and understand its mistake. Is this an inappropriate use of technology? This is an approved technology. They asked why I brought it; I said for the offside position. The authority needs to comment on this.”

“THIS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT UEFA”
Bulent Yildirim: “I have never seen or heard of such an event in our seminars or UEFA clips. There is no determination of where such an act fits; we have not received training on this. We follow all the terminologies and seminars from FIFA and UEFA. There has been no instruction or incident regarding this before. If the referee considers this an inappropriate use of technical equipment, it could be a red card. If it is unsportsmanlike, it could be a yellow card. This will now be discussed at UEFA, and the Referee Committee will provide instructions for this.”

“HE SHOULD BE SENT OFF”

Bahattin Duran: “A comment is necessary. This is a comment; Mourinho should be sent off. This is an inappropriate use. He should be sent off. Mourinho protested by throwing it in the eyes of everyone watching.”

“TERIM DID IT TOO, BUT…”

Fırat Aydınus: “If he had shown it to the camera from the bench… Fatih Terim had shown it to the referee with his phone. The inception of VAR started from there. This is something Mourinho should not have done; it is unsportsmanlike. He steps outside the technical area and places it in front of the camera. If you ignore this today, similar incidents may be cited as a precedent in the future. Such actions are considered normal when it comes to Mourinho. It should not go unpunished. You are making a move that undermines the authority of the referee’s decision. If he had shown it to the fourth official, it wouldn’t be a big deal. This action should not have gone without a card.
