Kevin Durant Highlights Suns’ Training Camp Focus: Reducing Turnovers

This season, the Phoenix Suns are going back to basics. Star player Kevin Durant said that reducing mistakes is the team’s main goal during training camp. The Suns are eager to improve their play and become a better offensive unit after having one of the worst assist-to-turnover rates in the league last year.

Durant stressed how important it is to keep the ball safe and make smart choices. “I think turnovers are the most important thing,” Durant said. “Being on the same page has been a big deal since our first meeting with Coach [Budenholzer] a year ago—just getting that out of the way right away.” Making sure we always play the right way and don’t try to hit home runs. It’s possible to make the right play and lose the ball at the same time. So, you need to try to find that fit.

Finding that middle ground—making the smart, useful play without having to force risky passes or extra flash—is what’s important. The Suns want to improve how the ball moves and how well they use their time on the court by making fewer mistakes.

New People to Keep the Ship Afloat

For this reason, the Suns have added Tyus Jones and Monte Morris, two experienced point guards who are known for being good with the ball and having high assist-to-turnover rates. Both players are expected to keep the offense stable and calm, which will lead to better ball sharing and fewer costly mistakes.

The Suns hope to turn things around from last season by adding these players and putting more emphasis on making smart plays. They want to build a team that can compete with the best in the league. Coach Budenholzer and Durant are leading them to a controlled, turnover-free style of play that will make them a strong team this year.
