Leclerc: “The fastest lap point didn’t measure skill.”

Charles Leclerc stated that the removal of the fastest lap point was the right decision.

Ferrari plans to test the performance of the updates added to the car before the Formula 1 U.S. GP at the Austin circuit.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc noted that this weekend is critical for the team’s development direction.

The Monégasque driver also expressed his approval of the FIA’s decision to remove the fastest lap point starting in the 2024 season, stating that this point provided a strategic advantage rather than reflecting race results: “I think removing the fastest lap point is a good thing. This point can be obtained by chance depending on the race situation and doesn’t really measure skill.”

Leclerc also discussed the team’s plans for COTA, saying, “Our focus in Austin will be to measure the performance of the latest updates we’ve brought.”

“So far, we’ve tested these updates on certain tracks, but Austin is a more balanced circuit where we can evaluate the car in all aspects.”
