Lee Carsley Reveals Plans to Step Down Following Shock Defeat

Lee Carsley says he will step down as England manager in November after the shocking loss. After losing to Greece, the interim boss thinks about his short-term job.

After England’s shocking 2-1 loss to Greece in the Nations League, Lee Carsley has announced that he will step down as interim manager in November.

After Gareth Southgate quit after Euro 2024, Carsley took over the senior team for a short time. Carsley was given the job of leading the team until a stable replacement for Southgate is found. He was previously in charge of the under-21s.

His time in charge began well, with 2-0 wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland in a row. Some fans thought that the 50-year-old could be a good long-term choice for the Three Lions because of this. After his first loss to Greece, though, Carsley said he can’t wait to get back to his old job with the U21s.

The Things Lee Carsley Said

When asked about the loss to Greece, Carsley told the reporters:

“I was surprised that people thought the job was mine to lose after the last camp. It’s been clear what my job is. I have three camps to run, three games to go, and then I hope to be back with the U21s. Besides that, it hasn’t had much of an effect.”
