Lionel Messi Back in Argentina Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Lionel Messi is back in the Argentina team to play Bolivia and Venezuela in the World Cup qualifying round.

When manager Lionel Scaloni names his side for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, Lionel Messi is expected to make his comeback to the Argentina national team. In an attempt to hold onto the top spot in the 2026 World Cup qualifying standings, the Albiceleste will play Venezuela on October 10 and then Bolivia five days later.

Messi’s inclusion for the defending Copa America champions, who are currently under siege from Colombia, who is only two points behind them, is opportune. Los Cafeteros are playing incredibly well; they have won 30 games in a regular season without losing.

With the exception of Messi’s return, the Argentina team is essentially intact. Argentina’s quest to maintain momentum on their path to the 2026 World Cup and to increase their lead in the qualifications will depend heavily on the experience and leadership of the star forward.
