Man Utd Stadium Decision Delayed: Old Trafford’s Future on Hold Amid Supporter Divide

Manchester United has decided to wait until next summer to decide whether to rebuild or demolish Old Trafford. Before making final arrangements, the club intends to wait until Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham’s March budget announcement and look into further funding sources.

The team was originally supposed to rehabilitate the historic stadium, but they are now also thinking of constructing a new stadium, the 100,000-seater “Wembley of the North,” which would cost £2 billion ($2.5 billion) and require purchasing adjacent property that is already a train freight station.

Supporters of United are divided over the future of Old Trafford. According to a recent survey of 500,000 supporters, 52% are amenable to building a new stadium, 31% would rather renovate the current one, and 17% are unsure. According to the poll, younger supporters are more likely to support keeping Old Trafford, while older supporters are more inclined to support the construction of a new stadium.
