Manchester City Has a €12 Million Transfer Option for Haaland’s Injury Risk
After losing Julian Alvarez, Manchester City is planning to sign young talent Claudio Echeverri from River Plate in January. Head coach Pep Guardiola stated, “Erling can’t play in every game,” indicating that City is looking for a new forward to ease the load on Haaland. City did not sign another forward during the summer transfer window and is now looking at alternative players to fill this gap.
Guardiola’s Forward Alternatives and January Plans
Guardiola mentioned that he could use Phil Foden, James McAtee, and İlkay Gündoğan in the forward line, while Oscar Bobb is also among the options once he returns from injury. Haaland is not expected to be risked in the Carabao Cup match, so McAtee is likely to feature against Watford. In January, with a busier schedule, Haaland’s minutes will need to be managed carefully. At this point, Claudio Echeverri, whom City plans to sign from River Plate for €12.5 million, could come into play.
Claudio Echeverri’s Performance and Transfer Details
The 18-year-old Claudio Echeverri has recorded four goals and three assists in 28 matches for River Plate this season. Following a similar transfer strategy to when they signed Julian Alvarez from River Plate, City is closely monitoring Echeverri’s development. While Echeverri may not yet be as impactful as Alvarez, his performances at a young age have been impressive.
UEFA Obstacle for Girona and Loan Plans
City had planned to loan Echeverri to Girona to help him adapt to European football. However, UEFA restrictions, due to both teams competing in the Champions League, blocked this plan. Still, another loan option could be considered. Although Manchester City is usually known for staying quiet during the January transfer window, signing Echeverri could be a smart move to ease Haaland’s burden and add depth to the attack.
