Manchester United and Liverpool Battle for Free Transfer of Jonathan Tah

Manchester United and Liverpool in Race to Sign Star Defender Jonathan Tah

With the transfer window closed, Manchester United could see several players, including Antony and Christian Eriksen, depart as free transfers next summer when their contracts expire. As clubs start planning for next season, bargain signings are becoming a hot topic.

Reports suggest that United are eyeing Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah for a potential free transfer. According to SportBild (via SportWitness), United face stiff competition from rivals Liverpool for the 28-year-old defender. Bayern Munich had been interested in Tah this summer as a potential replacement for Matthijs de Ligt but failed to agree on a transfer fee.

The option of signing Tah for free next summer remains attractive to many clubs, including Bayern, but United and Liverpool may have the edge. Tah reportedly has a desire to play in the Premier League, which could sway his decision in favor of the English clubs. However, Manchester United will need to secure Champions League football, as Tah is not keen on playing outside Europe’s elite competition.

United’s next challenge is against Southampton, with key players Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund returning from injury. After earning only three points from their first three games, some pundits are already raising concerns about the team’s ability to compete at the highest level this season.
