Manchester United Signs De Ligt and Mazraoui from Bayern Munich
Premier League giants Manchester United are making a significant move to strengthen their squad. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Red Devils have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt. The deal is reported to be worth €45 million (£38 million/$49 million) plus an additional €5 million (£4 million/$5 million) in add-ons. The 24-year-old is expected to undergo a medical before signing a five-year contract with an option for a 12-month extension.
Additionally, Manchester United is also set to sign right-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. The Premier League club has agreed to pay €15 million (£12 million/$15 million) plus €5 million (£4 million/$5 million) in bonuses for the transfer. However, this deal is contingent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure to West Ham this summer.
Erik ten Hag’s team is also considering adding former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso to the squad on a free transfer. The 29-year-old Spaniard is versatile, capable of playing both as a center-back and a left-back.
Manchester United will host Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday, August 16, in their opening match of the new Premier League season. Ten Hag’s side is aiming to end their long wait for the league title this season.
