Manchester United Sign Uruguay Midfielder Manuel Ugarte in £42.1m Deal

Manchester United have secured Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte as their fifth signing of the summer transfer window. Ugarte joined the Red Devils on deadline day for an initial fee of £42.1 million, with an additional £8.4 million in potential add-ons.

The 22-year-old midfielder follows in the footsteps of new arrivals Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui at Old Trafford.

Ugarte’s talent first came to the fore when he was handed the captain’s armband at the age of 18. His impressive performances quickly caught the eye of Portuguese Primeira Liga club Famalicao, who signed him in December 2020. Just eight months later, reigning champions Sporting Lisbon acquired the then 20-year-old, initially as a backup to Joao Palhinha, who later moved to Fulham in 2022.
