Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has suggested he might consider retiring at the end of the season, citing concerns over the increasingly demanding football calendar. The 29-year-old, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in September 2022, has already played 127 games for both club and country, including seven appearances this season.

As Pep Guardiola’s side prepares for the expanded Champions League, with their first-phase game against Inter Milan on Wednesday, Akanji voiced his frustration with the “tough” schedule. The expanded competition adds to a crowded fixture list, putting additional strain on players.
