Former Galatasaray defender Marcao, now playing for Sevilla, has revealed the difficult mental challenges he faced over the past two years, admitting that he sought psychological treatment to cope.
During an interview with SFC, the Brazilian center-back shared how injuries kept him away from the pitch, causing him immense emotional distress. “I went through a really tough two years because of my injuries. My family supported me, and then I went to see a psychologist. At first, I thought it was nonsense, but it turned out to help me a lot. I became a calmer person and changed my habits,” Marcao said.
The 27-year-old also disclosed that it was his wife who encouraged him to seek help. “I wasn’t a good person. I hadn’t been a good father. I was suffering. My wife would tell me, ‘You need help,’ and she was right. I agreed and started seeing a psychologist regularly,” he admitted.

Marcao, who played 141 official matches for Galatasaray, contributed 2 goals and 2 assists during his time at the Turkish club. Now in his third season at Sevilla, he has made 27 appearances for the Spanish side.
