Mario Hezonja’s Return to the Court Uncertain for Real Madrid

Mario Hezonja might not be ready for the EuroLeague opener.

Real Madrid has received bad news regarding Mario Hezonja, who has lost 7 kilograms due to illness and will be sidelined for a while.

Real Madrid’s head coach, Chus Mateo, spoke about Hezonja ahead of their match against Leyma Coruña:
“He lost six or seven kilograms, and now he has to work to regain it because he has been vomiting, suffering from diarrhea, and running a high fever. We will work with him to get him back to full fitness as soon as possible. He missed the Super Cup due to his high fever.”

It remains uncertain whether Hezonja will be fit for Real Madrid’s EuroLeague opener against Bayern Munich, which will be played away on Thursday, October 3rd.

After Real’s loss to Unicaja Malaga in the ACB SuperCup Final, Mateo stated that the team might need one or two more transfers. Real Madrid currently has 13 players on its roster, including young talents Hugo Gonzalez and Eli Ndiaye.

In the 2023-24 EuroLeague season, Hezonja averaged 13.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
