Mauricio Pochettino Explains Why Tyler Adams’ Chelsea Move Fell Through
Tyler Adams’ exclusion from the most recent USMNT squad and Chelsea’s reasons for not signing him in 2023 have been disclosed by Mauricio Pochettino.
Adams originally had plans to join Chelsea, but in the summer of 2023 he moved from Leeds United to Bournemouth. Chelsea’s manager at the time, Pochettino, said that the team finally passed on Adams because of injury worries. Adams has only just recovered from a back ailment, therefore his continued fitness problems have also prevented him from being included in the USMNT team for the forthcoming Nations League matches against Jamaica.
Pochettino’s Statement
Speaking to reporters, Pochettino said:
“We know very well we need to look after him [Adams], to have him in the best condition for 2026. When we arrived at Chelsea, we wanted to sign him, and I remember a conversation we had in Chicago. But ultimately, the club decided not to proceed because he was injured. We understand how important he is, but we need to provide the right platform for him to reach his best.”
