Mauro Icardi is set to make history with Galatasaray!

Galatasaray’s Argentine star Icardi has scored 60 goals in 84 official matches wearing the yellow-red jersey.

Icardi is very close to becoming the highest-scoring foreign player in Galatasaray’s history. After developing in Spain’s famous club Barcelona’s youth system, he played for Sampdoria, Inter, and Paris Saint-Germain before transferring to Galatasaray ahead of the 2022-2023 season. Prior to joining the yellow-reds, Icardi played 344 official matches and scored 173 goals. The star striker was the top scorer in the Italian League in the 2014-2015 and 2017-2018 seasons while playing for Inter.

Icardi, whose career had declined at PSG, found new life at Galatasaray. In his first season, he scored 22 goals in 24 Super Lig matches and added 1 goal in 2 Turkey Cup matches. His performance played a significant role in the team’s championship, and he became a fan favorite.

HAGI HAS 72 GOALS
If Icardi surpasses Baros, he will set his sights on the record of Galatasaray legend Gheorghe Hagi. The Romanian star is the club’s highest-scoring foreign player with 72 goals in 192 matches. Icardi aims to break Hagi’s record before the season ends, as he scores approximately one goal in every three matches.

With his 60th goal for Galatasaray, the 31-year-old star surpassed Selcuk İnan, who has 59 goals, to take the 10th spot on the list of the club’s all-time top scorers. In both of his seasons with the yellow-red team, Icardi scored over 20 goals, and if he maintains this performance, he could challenge for a place in the top 5 by the end of the season.
