Under Mehmet Topal’s management, Petrolul Ploiesti secured a 3-1 victory over Poli Iaşi in the 14th round of the Romanian Liga I, moving up to second place in the league. Hosted at the Ilie Oana Stadium, Topal’s squad rallied after going down 1-0, with goals from Gheorghe Grozav (25′), Alexandru Tudorie (53′), and Mario Bratu (88′) sealing the win. Poli Iaşi’s lone goal came from Mihai Bordeianu in the 20th minute, before teammate Florian Kamberi saw red in the 38th minute, reducing his side to ten men.
With this win, Ploiesti recorded their fifth victory of the season, reaching 22 points to claim second place with an extra game played. Their next league encounter is an away fixture against Sepsi on November 2.
