Mikel Arteta Explains Leandro Trossard’s Silent Celebration After Goal Against Aston Villa

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provided insights into why Leandro Trossard refrained from celebrating after scoring the opening goal in their 2-0 victory against Aston Villa. The Belgian forward, who came on as a substitute in the 65th minute for Gabriel Martinelli, quickly made an impact by netting a goal just two minutes later. However, Trossard initially chose not to celebrate, only performing his trademark ‘Glasses’ routine after repeated encouragement from teammate William Saliba.

In his post-match comments, Arteta explained that Trossard’s muted celebration stemmed from his disappointment at not being included in the starting lineup. Arteta acknowledged Trossard’s frustration but praised the player for channeling his emotions positively on the pitch. “There are certain ways to react when you’re not selected for the starting XI,” Arteta said. “Leo was upset, but he showed just how good he is on the field. Being upset and then coming on to score is a remarkable quality.”

Arteta further highlighted the competition within the squad, noting that Arsenal has “two great left wingers” in Trossard and Martinelli, with Reiss Nelson also capable of playing in that position. He emphasized that this internal competition is a challenge, but it ensures high quality in performances.
