Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his ambitious vision for the club, revealing that the Gunners dream of becoming the best team in the world as they chase Premier League glory this season.
Currently, Arsenal sit just one place ahead of title rivals Manchester City in the league standings, but are still two points behind leaders Liverpool. Despite Liverpool’s strong form, Arteta believes his side has the potential to not only challenge for the Premier League title but to dominate football globally.
“We want to be the kings of everything,” Arteta told reporters ahead of Sunday’s clash with Fulham. “At set pieces, the best in the world; at high press, the best in the world; attacking open spaces, the best in the world. We want the best atmosphere in the stadium, and be the best at everything.”
Arsenal’s recent resurgence, which includes victories over Manchester United, West Ham, and Nottingham Forest, has put them firmly back in the title race following a shaky start to the season. Arteta is clear that the club’s ambitions go beyond just winning the Premier League.
“Before, it was about not scoring enough, being too defensive, not being physical enough, and struggling in big matches away from home,” Arteta explained. “Now, we want to be the best at everything. We want the best academy, the best individual development for players, the best recruitment, and the best coaches. That’s the aim.”
Although Arteta acknowledged that his team is excelling in many areas, he stressed that there is still room for improvement, particularly in defending set pieces. Arsenal’s recent 3-2 win over Manchester United saw them concede all three of their opponent’s chances from set-piece situations.
“There is a lot to improve,” Arteta admitted. “We are very good at a lot of things, but we are not perfect. The margins are always there for us to explore and get better.”
Arsenal will look to close the gap on leaders Liverpool as they travel to Fulham on Sunday. Liverpool‘s match against Everton was postponed due to adverse weather, offering the Gunners a chance to move closer to the top of the table.
