Mourinho Could Not Approach Ismail Kartal

Under the management of head coach Jose Mourinho, Fenerbahce has lost 7 points in the first 8 matches of Trendyol Super League, falling short of last season’s performance.

The yellow-navy team, which finished the 2023-2024 season in second place with 99 points under former head coach Ismail Kartal, did not lose any points in the first 8-week period and kept a clean sheet in 6 matches.

During the 8-week period under Kartal, Fenerbahce collected 24 points from matches against Gaziantep FK, Samsunspor, MKE Ankaragucu, Antalyaspor, Corendon Alanyaspor, RAMS Basaksehir, Caykur Rizespor, and Kasımpasa, scoring 20 goals while conceding only 3.

The yellow-navy team won the first match against Gaziantep FK 2-1 and the fourth week match against Antalyaspor 3-2, managing not to give their opponents a chance to score in the remaining 6 matches.

In 38 matches played in the league, Ismail Kartal’s students achieved 31 wins, 6 draws, and 1 loss, with a total of 15 points lost, while under Jose Mourinho, the yellow-navy team lost 7 points in their first 8 matches.

Fell 8 Points Behind the Top

Last season, under Ismail Kartal, the team started the season by breaking a record with 10 wins in 10 matches, but under Jose Mourinho, they remained 8 points behind the top with one match less by the 9th week.

In the 8 matches played, the yellow-navy team recorded 5 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss, scoring 18 goals while conceding 7.

Mourinho’s team managed to keep a clean sheet in their victories against Adana Demirspor, Caykur Rizespor, Corendon Alanyaspor, Kasımpasa, and Onvo Antalyaspor, but lost points in the 3 matches where they conceded goals.

In the second week of the league, the yellow-navy team could not maintain their lead against Goztepe, ending the match in a 2-2 draw, while in the 6th week, they lost 3-1 to their eternal rival Galatasaray in front of their fans.

Fenerbahce also settled for a point in the away match against Samsunspor, where they took the lead twice.

While the yellow-navy team did not fall out of the top 2 last season under Ismail Kartal, they finished the 9th week in 4th place under Jose Mourinho.
