Okan Buruk’s Derby Record
In the 10th week of the Trendyol Super Lig, Galatasaray’s head coach, Okan Buruk, will face Besiktas for the sixth time in a derby match tomorrow. Ahead of this crucial encounter at RAMS Park, Buruk’s derby record has come under the spotlight.
As Galatasaray’s head coach, Buruk has competed against Besiktas five times, including a Super Cup match, winning three and losing two. Under his guidance, Galatasaray scored six goals and conceded ten in these matches.
Derby Success Boosts Buruk’s Title Wins
In the past two seasons, victories over Fenerbahce and Besiktas were crucial for Buruk, helping him lead Galatasaray to league titles. Against Fenerbahce, Buruk’s Galatasaray recorded three wins, one loss, and one draw over five matches, scoring nine goals and conceding only two. Against Besiktas, Buruk’s team won three out of four league games, scoring six goals and conceding five. However, Galatasaray lost to Besiktas in the Super Cup match earlier this season under Buruk’s management.

Apart from Galatasaray, Buruk faced Besiktas 12 times while coaching teams like Elazigspor, Gaziantepspor, Sivasspor, Akhisarspor, Caykur Rizespor, and Basaksehir. He lost eight and drew three of those matches. His only victory outside Galatasaray came in the 2019-2020 season when he led Basaksehir to a 1-0 win over Besiktas.
