Experienced coach Pablo Laso revealed the first name he would add to his roster from among the players competing in EuroLeague.
Last summer, Pablo Laso made a surprising move by leaving Bayern Munich and returning to the helm of Baskonia, where he started his playing career, in the Spanish League.
In the Spanish League, Laso will once again face many familiar faces, as he coached Real Madrid from 2011 to 2022.
In an interview with MARCA, Laso stated that Walter Tavares, one of the players he coached during that time, would be the first player he would sign if given the opportunity in EuroLeague.
Laso said, “If I could add any player in the world to my roster, I would take Tavares. We’re not in the NBA; if we were competing in the NBA, I might have different choices. In the Spanish League and EuroLeague, Tavares is the best player playing the game in Europe. That’s why I would prefer him over everyone else.”
The 32-year-old Tavares has been wearing the Real Madrid jersey since 2017. He has won EuroLeague championships in 2018 and 2023 and was also named the Final Four MVP in 2023. Tavares, who holds the record for the most blocks in EuroLeague history, has also secured four Spanish League championships in his career.
