Palestine Awaits Israel’s Ban from International Football

The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) has announced that it has received an independent legal assessment from FIFA regarding its request to have Israel banned from international football.

In a statement, the PFA acknowledged FIFA’s impartiality on the matter and expressed confidence that the process would conclude fairly. The PFA also stated that it eagerly awaits FIFA’s final decision on October 3rd and expects that Israel will be banned from international football on that date.

The statement emphasized the PFA’s commitment to defending the rights enshrined in FIFA’s statutes and regulations, aimed at developing and promoting football in Palestine. It also highlighted the belief that the decision would bring justice and equality to Palestinian football and athletes.

Back in April, the PFA submitted a formal request to FIFA, calling for the termination of Israel Football Federation’s membership, citing Israel’s failure to address human rights violations caused by its attacks since October 7 and ongoing discrimination and racism in the Israeli league.

Jibril al-Rajoub, the Chairman of the Higher Council for Youth and Sports in Palestine, revealed in May that Israeli officials had threatened the PFA to withdraw its request to expel Israel from FIFA.

The death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has reportedly risen to 41,495, with the number of injured reaching 96,006.
