Patrice Evra and Anderson Handed Prison Sentences Over Unpaid Alimony and Child Support
Two months ago, former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra faced a dramatic fall from grace, receiving a 12-month prison sentence in France for family abandonment. According to French outlet Le Parisien, Evra owes nearly €1 million in alimony to his ex-wife Sandra Evra, which he has failed to pay. Judges in the Nanterre suburb of Paris found him guilty of “abandoning” his ex-wife and their children, who are now 19 and 10 years old, by refusing to meet his financial obligations.
Now, another former Manchester United player, Anderson, has also been handed a prison sentence for a similar issue. The former midfielder has been ordered to serve jail time in Porto Alegre, Brazil, unless he pays £45,000 in overdue child support for his nine children. A family court judge made the ruling last week, but the news only became public on 10th September 2024.
Anderson’s sentence is set at 30 days in Irmao Miguel Dario Prison unless he clears his outstanding debt.
