Perez Warns Colapinto About Potential Return to F2

Sergio Perez has issued a cautionary message to Franco Colapinto regarding the risks of returning to Formula 2 if he misses out on the last F1 seat at Audi.

Colapinto made his Formula 1 debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, stepping in for Logan Sargeant at Williams. The Argentinian driver impressed by finishing eighth in Baku, securing points in only his second race.

Despite his strong performance, Colapinto will not be on the grid with Williams in 2025. Team principal James Vowles has expressed willingness to support Colapinto for Audi’s final seat but has noted a lack of interest from the team. This situation leaves Colapinto with two options: serve as Williams’ reserve driver or return to F2.

Perez has warned Colapinto against the latter option, citing concerns that a challenging season in F2 could harm his reputation. He stated, “I hope Franco gets the Audi seat. It would be very disappointing for him not to secure a seat after what he has done.”

Returning to F2 could jeopardize his career, as Perez highlighted, “There are things he needs to improve in the F2 championship. A tough season there could damage his career.”
