Philadelphia Union Part Ways with Longtime Manager Jim Curtin
After failing to make it to the 2024 MLS postseason, the Philadelphia Union made the unexpected decision to fire manager Jim Curtin.
The Legacy of Curtin at the Philadelphia Union
Curtin joined the Union in 2014, and over his 11 seasons there, he left a history filled with noteworthy accomplishments. Most notably, he won the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2020, leading the team to its first significant trophy. In addition, Curtin received two MLS Coach of the Year awards in 2020 and 2022, which demonstrated his effect and influence within the league.
Curtin led the Union to three US Open Cup finals (2014, 2015, and 2018), although they missed out on winning the championship each time. The Union also advanced to the MLS Cup Final in 2022. Notwithstanding these achievements, a managerial change was decided upon due to the team’s recent play and inability to guarantee a postseason berth in 2024.
