Pogba’s Brother Faces Court Over Extortion Case
Pogba’s Brother and Five Others Set to Face Court in Extortion Case
According to ESPN, Paul Pogba’s brother and five other individuals are set to appear in court as part of an extortion case targeting the Juventus midfielder. The case dates back two years, with Pogba’s brother, Mathias, being detained in September 2022 after allegations of blackmail surfaced. The group is accused of attempting to extort £11 million from Pogba.
The charges against them include attempted extortion, extortion by violence, kidnapping, and detention with intent to facilitate crime or misdemeanour, as well as forming a criminal organisation. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that Mathias would face charges of “attempted extortion and criminal conspiracy.”
The situation reportedly had such a severe impact on Paul Pogba that he considered retirement at one point. Pogba testified in court that the ordeal significantly affected his mental health. In addition to this legal turmoil, Pogba’s playing career has suffered a downturn due to recurring injuries and a potential four-year doping ban earlier this year.
