Nine-Man PSG Stun Bayern to Reach Club World Cup Semi-Finals
Paris Saint-Germain booked their place in the Club World Cup semi-finals with a gritty 2-0 win over Bayern Munich, despite finishing with nine men and seeing two players sent off.
Goals from Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele secured victory for the French champions in Atlanta and set up a last-four showdown with either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund.
The match, however, was overshadowed by a serious ankle injury to Bayern’s Jamal Musiala in the first half.
Doue Breakthrough Sparks Late Drama
After an absorbing but goalless first half, 20-year-old Doue broke the deadlock in the 78th minute with a low, curling strike past Manuel Neuer.
PSG were then reduced to 10 men when Willian Pacho received a straight red card for a reckless tackle on Leon Goretzka. In stoppage time, Lucas Hernandez was also dismissed after catching Raphael Guerreiro with a high boot.
But Dembele sealed the result in injury-time, finishing confidently to cap a dramatic finale.
Musiala Injury Mars Bayern Exit
Bayern’s evening took an early blow when Musiala, making his first start of the tournament, suffered a nasty ankle injury following a collision with PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The 22-year-old, who scored a hat-trick in Bayern’s 10-0 rout of Auckland City earlier in the tournament, left the field in visible pain and looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
VAR Drama and Late Farewell for Muller
There was further frustration for Bayern as Harry Kane and Dayot Upamecano both saw goals ruled out for offside, while a late penalty decision in their favour was overturned by VAR after a pitchside review.
The game marked an emotional farewell for Thomas Muller, who came on as a substitute for his final Bayern appearance after a glittering 17-year career.
