Deco Explains Barcelona’s Decision to Sign Dani Olmo, Not Nico Williams

Deco Explains Barcelona’s Summer Transfer Decisions and Key Signing

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has opened up about the club’s summer transfer strategy, shedding light on why certain decisions were made, including the signing of Dani Olmo and the decision not to pursue Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.

Deco explained why Barcelona opted against signing Nico Williams, despite showing interest:

“We didn’t sign Nico Williams as we already have Raphinha, Ferran, Ansu, Lamine, and Fermin, with Olmo also able to contribute in those areas.”

One of the most significant acquisitions for Barcelona this summer was midfielder Dani Olmo, whom Deco identified as a critical addition to the squad. “We signed Dani Olmo because he is the midfielder we didn’t have. There was a lot of quality in the team, but Dani was the type of player we lacked. He brings the hunger to win, which is essential. Barcelona has always been a blend of homegrown players and hungry footballers.”
