Giovanni van Bronckhorst Demands Clarification: “I Expect an Explanation”
Following Beşiktaş’s 2-1 loss to Galatasaray in the Trendyol Süper Lig’s Week 10 derby at Rams Park, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst voiced strong criticisms regarding the officiating.
Van Bronckhorst expressed frustration with the match’s refereeing, saying, “Of course, this was disappointing. We knew it would be a tough game, but I really liked the way we played. This is who we are. I don’t want to say too much because I want to be with my team on Sunday, but I honestly don’t understand why Galatasaray didn’t go down to 10 or even 9 players with red cards. We came here as Beşiktaş, showing that we fear no one. But we allowed opportunities from set pieces. Ersin was still setting up the wall when the referee restarted play for the second goal. I expect an explanation for the referee’s performance. My players were punched in the stomach, and there were incidents of players being tripped and pushed.”
Van Bronckhorst added by commemorating Turkey’s Republic Day: “I wish everyone a happy Republic Day. It’s an important day for all Turkish people, and I hope they celebrate it wholeheartedly.”
The statements have drawn attention, with Van Bronckhorst calling for clearer officiating standards after a tense and hard-fought derby.
