Speaking to Sports Digitale, Hüseyin Yücel said: “At the top of our transfer list was Rafa Silva. We asked our coach about him, and he said, ‘I wish he could come,’ so we started working on it. First, we tried to convince his agent in a straightforward manner, but he wasn’t interested. We bought his ticket, arranged his hotel, and tried to lure him to Turkey by saying, ‘We’ll host you here, you can have a vacation.’ Once he was here, we surrounded him, but still didn’t get any results.

After two to three weeks, we kept pushing and said, ‘We’re coming to Portugal,’ to which he replied, ‘Don’t bother coming.’ So, we said, ‘Then we’ll go on vacation there.’ We jumped on a plane and went. We sat in the hotel lobby, trying to negotiate—adding extra terms to the deal. Every time he said something, I agreed. Eventually, the agent was convinced and called Rafa. He said, ‘Okay, we’ll sign next week.’ We replied, ‘No way, we’re signing now. We’re not leaving without signing a contract. Once we sign, we’ll board the plane with Rafa.’ Seeing our determination, Rafa wanted to come too, and we finalized the deal at the hotel, then flew back together.”
