Izmir to Host 37th National Match
Izmir will host the Turkish National Football Team’s 37th match when Turkey faces Iceland at Gürsel Aksel Stadium on Monday, September 9, in the second week of UEFA Nations League B Group 4.
Turkey first played against Iceland in Izmir on September 24, 1980, and will host Iceland on the 102nd anniversary of the city’s liberation from enemy occupation.
The Turkish National Team has played four matches on September 9 in the past. Of these, two were against Iceland in 1981 and 2014, making this their third encounter on this date.
Turkey lost both matches against Iceland on these dates and drew matches against the Republic of Ireland in 2003 and Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2009.
