Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, made a self-critical statement about his team and his own performance following their recent defeat.
The Premier League giants were left stunned after a shocking 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. As Slot prepares for the upcoming Champions League opener against Serie A giants, he admitted that his players need to work on their shortcomings and acknowledged that something is wrong.
The Slot era at Anfield had started well, with a dominant win against arch-rivals Manchester United before the international break. However, their unbeaten run came to an end last weekend with the defeat to Forest.
What did Arne Slot say?
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Slot said, “It’s not just the journalists who are disappointed with the result against Nottingham Forest; the team and I are truly disappointed as well. Even when we beat United, we tried to keep things in the right perspective, but we were very positive. Of course, there were things we knew we needed to improve.
Last Saturday, we didn’t do as well as we did against United, but there were still some positives. But it was a completely different match, and the same will apply tomorrow. I expect a totally different game against Milan. The type of players they have and their coach’s style are very different compared to Nottingham Forest.
However, we should be disappointed when we lose a home game against Nottingham Forest. If you’re playing for Liverpool, it’s normal to feel disappointed if you lose a home game against Nottingham Forest. Four games, nine points—it’s a good start, but it’s not a great one, because for it to be great, we should have 12 points right now.”
The Reds will face AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, followed by a Premier League clash against Bournemouth on September 21.
