Montoya: Verstappen has already won the title

Max Verstappen has more or less secured his fourth consecutive world title after his stunning victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver will be champion in Las Vegas, even if he loses two points to Lando Norris.

According to Juan Pablo Montoya, the title fight is already over.

“Las Vegas should be good for Ferrari, so if they win and Lando finishes the race in third or fourth place it won’t be easy for Max,” Montoya told W Radio Colombia.

“But to be realistic, Max has already won the championship. He’s already taken that dream away from Lando.”

“I think McLaren will focus on the strategy of winning the constructors’ championship. The Papaya rules will be gone and the rules that will come out will be about figuring out how to beat Ferrari or stop them from getting close.”

Montoya was also impressed by Verstappen’s fastest laps after taking the lead in the Brazilian GP.

“I wouldn’t have done what he did on the fast laps because he had a big lead on such a difficult track with worn tyres,” Montoya said.

“If you go over the white line, you lose the car and your points go from 26 to zero.”

“He’s very good at what he does, but sooner or later you’re in for an unpleasant surprise.”

“This was partly to show everyone that he was the boss,” he said.
