Paraguay Implements ‘Anti-Lionel Messi’ Measure Ahead of 2026 World Cup Qualifier

Before their 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Argentina, Paraguay has taken an unprecedented step by prohibiting supporters from donning Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 shirt in the stadium’s local sections.

On November 14, the Albiceleste, who were crowned world champions in Qatar 2022, will play Paraguay at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium. After finishing his season with Inter Miami, Lionel Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, is anticipated to play.

Statement from Paraguayan FA

Fernando Villasboa, the licensing manager of the Paraguayan FA, told EFE:

“We have already warned that in the local sectors, we will not allow access to jerseys that are not from Paraguay, or perhaps neutral ones, but not from the rival.”

This measure is designed to ensure full support for the Paraguayan team during the crucial match.
