Paris Basketball on track for historic EuroLeague debut season

Paris Basketball is proving to be the real deal in their debut EuroLeague season. The French team has stormed out of the gates with a 7-3 record, currently sharing second place with four other teams. They’re on track for one of the most successful EuroLeague debuts in recent memory.

Their latest statement win came on Friday night, as they became the first team this season to conquer Palau Blaugrana, stunning FC Barcelona with a 103-87 victory. This red-hot Paris squad is now riding a six-game winning streak in the competition.

In the past decade, only AS Monaco managed to have a positive record in their first EuroLeague season, going 17-16 in the 2021-22 campaign, including the playoffs.

For all other newcomers in that span, the transition to the EuroLeague has been far less kind.

Newcomers in modern EuroLeague: Different approaches and common trend
Paris’ latest win, especially in such a dominant fashion, raises the question: can they follow up on their EuroCup success from last season with a serious challenge for a EuroLeague trophy?

When asked about the team’s ceiling, head coach Tiago Splitter kept it simple, saying: “I don’t know. We go game by game, and we’ll see.”

Well, we’ll see, indeed. But one thing’s for sure — it’s going to be a lot of fun finding out.
