Paul Pogba Admits He Wanted to Leave Manchester United Three Years

Before he eventually moved to Juventus in 2022, Paul Pogba confessed that he wanted to leave Manchester United, but the team prevented him from leaving.

Pogba, who first left United in 2012 to join Juventus, and then came back to Old Trafford in 2016, had a challenging second stint with the Premier League’s biggest clubs. He had a difficult time with the team due to injuries and rumors of a possible transfer to Real Madrid. Pogba acknowledged that he had desired to leave United as early as 2019, three years prior to his final return to Juventus, in an open interview with The Daily Mail.

What Pogba Said

Reflecting on his time at United, Pogba shared:

“The year Jose [Mourinho] went and Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] came, it was my best season at United, but after the last game, I told Ole and Ed Woodward that I thought it was my last year and that I wanted to leave.” he said.

Pogba explained that while he felt he had given his best, he did not see the club making progress:

“I was 27 back then, it didn’t work out the way I wanted. I gave my best, but I didn’t see the club going upwards. Manchester City and Liverpool were better than us, and they were improving.”
