Sainz points out key difference between Verstappen and Norris

Carlos Sainz shared his observations on Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.Lando Norris’s tendency to be self-critical has been an ongoing topic of discussion heading into the 2024 season.
In an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Norris’ former McLaren teammate and close friend Carlos Sainz was asked whether he was as self-critical as Norris or whether he was more like the confident Max Verstappen.

Sainz began by evaluating the differences between the two pilots and their external images:

“Of course, from the outside you can only understand what you see. But the inner world of a driver can be very different. As a driver, you can always work on how you look from the outside. I’m not saying Verstappen is not what he seems, but Norris reveals himself a little bit more.

The Spanish pilot, who will race for Williams in 2025, explained where he stands on the scale of criticism and self-confidence as follows:

“I don’t know if I’m exactly in between or closer to one side. But you have to be careful with this kind of analysis. Drivers are very talented at presenting a certain image to the public.”

Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko has previously said he does not think Norris has the mental strength to become a world champion, highlighting the mental aspect of racing at this level.

Verstappen is currently in a strong position in the drivers’ championship and looks likely to win his fourth title at the next race in Las Vegas.
