Turkey Bans Match Between Besiktas and Maccabi Tel Aviv Amid Security Concerns
The Europa League match between Beşiktaş and Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv will now be played in a neutral country after Turkish officials prohibited the game from being hosted in Turkey. Originally set for November 28, Besiktas hoped to capitalize on their home crowd advantage, but growing tensions between Turkey and Israel prompted the decision.
Turkish officials cited probable “provocative actions” as the reason for shifting the fixture, and Beşiktaş issued a statement confirming the move. UEFA is currently looking for a suitable neutral venue to host the game in order to ensure that it runs smoothly and safely.
